Thank you

Thank you to all of you who responded to my last post. Paul and I appreciate all the encouragement. We have decided that it is time to retire this blog, at least for now. We hope that we will be able to keep in touch with all of you. However, when you notice that we are not doing very well (which will almost certainly happen), please keep in touch with us!

The life of this blog
Monday, February 25, 2008. 10:18pm.
This week Paul and I have been reflecting on the life of this blog. It was begun in May of 2005 to allow a place for my web design and development skills to grow and for me to experiment with what I was learning. Soon after beginning our blog, we moved from Oregon to Minnesota. This meant the blog was a great place to keep up with friends and family back home. Through my development as a web designer in school, this blog had several faces and has been a wonderful place to grow.
Now that we are finished with school and back in the Northwest, Paul and I are struggling a bit to define a purpose for this forum. I am now working with clients, and do not have the time to experiment with this site like I used to. It still may be a useful place to communicate with friends and family, but we need to know that you are out there.
If you find this blog a useful way to stay in touch with us, help us to recapture the purpose of it by letting us know you are reading and would like it to go on. If you are reading this blog because it seems the only way to get a hold of us, but you'd rather hear about our lives another way, let us know that too. Just send us an email and let us know what you think about the usefulness of this forum.

Biking, Music and Cooking
Monday, February 18, 2008. 5:07pm.
This weekend was really exciting. Matt and Rebecca came over! It is always good to see family, and we have an especially good time with them. We made such exotic foods as pure chocolate cookies, roasted pork tenderloin, mashed sweet potatoes and fried plantains. All of it was fabulous.
While they were here we were also able to make a good amount of music. We played some new ones as a combo (I'm on drums, Paul on piano, Matt on bass and/or guitar, Rebecca singing and extra percussion). We also did some vocal quartet pieces including one called "A Dog Known as Ego," which is really, really, really, really, really hard (at least for me, as the only person who doesn't have perfect pitch or already know it). It is good to have a musical challenge like that every now and then, but I feel very out of practice.
Matt and Rebecca went home yesterday, so today Paul and I took a break and went for a bike ride. At nearly 60 degrees and ultra sunny, we had to take advantage of the day's weather while we have it. We rode 13 miles today and plan to go another 20 on Saturday. Wish us luck!

New Beginnings
Monday, February 11, 2008. 4:20pm.
Today has been a new beginning for me. Today I began my new part-time job as the secretary of the Dallas United Methodist Church. Typically, I won't be working on Mondays, but while I get settled in, I will be. So today I went to work. It is a really nice 1/2 hour drive. Quite a difference from the drive to Portland through heavy traffic taking three times as long.
Also, I am absolutely and fully confident that I can do the job required of me. This is a pretty good feeling. Also, it allows maximum mental energy to be focused on the business (Michelle Adams Web Design), which I intend to continue to focus on. I am excited about this new opportunity and the fun and challenges that are sure to come with it.
I also began to read a new book this weekend. Okay, I'm half-way through it already, but I did start it this weekend. It is called Three Cups of Tea by David Oliver Relin (of Oregon) and Greg Mortenson. The book was given to me for Christmas by my mom. It is an inspiring book about one guy building schools in Pakistan. I highly recommend it to everyone. Then, if you have lots of money, you should donate some to their foundation, the Central Asia Institute.

Taxes
Thursday, February 7, 2008. 9:47am.
They say the only two sure things in life are death and taxes. Yet most people seem to dread, fear and put off both as long as possible. I am certainly no exception when death is concerned. Happily, I don't want to die anytime soon. Nor do I want anyone I know to do so either. I hope to put it off as long as possible.
Taxes are a whole different matter. Last night Paul and I did our taxes. For us, this is kind of an exciting day. We always do it online, so there is verry little we can do to mess it up. Also, we always seem to get money back! Yay for free money!
